DORMS Arrival Reminder

Recently on the evening of Friday night while completing a few tasks at the Marriott at Pensacola Beach hotel, I was checking my e-mail messages. With the new DORMS arrival system for housing, there are a few new changes to the check-in process detailed in the following e-mail:
Congratulations on your upcoming arrival [Arrival Date]!
Your check-in will begin at Vista Way Welcome Center, 13501 Meadow Creek Drive, Orlando, 32821. Please arrive on [Arrival Date] during the arrival window of 8:00 – 10:00 AM.  Housing quiet hours are from 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM; please do not arrive prior to your arrival window or anytime during quiet hours.

Please be sure to bring your boarding pass and all forms printed and hand signed below the electronic signature to speed up your arrival process.   Please print each page on a separate sheet of paper as these forms will be scanned into DORMS after arrival and we are unable to scan double-sided printing at this time.

All on-site arrivals should bring the following forms, printed and signed:
1.       Boarding Pass
2.       Community Codes (please hand sign under printed name)
3.       Payroll Authorization (please hand sign under printed name)
4.       Alcohol Policy* (please hand sign under printed name)
*Only those participants under the age of 21 or that opted into an alcohol prohibited unit will have this form.

All off-site arrivals (opt out of housing) should bring the following forms, printed and signed:
1.       Boarding Pass
2.       Code of Conduct (please hand sign under printed name)

Please bring all of your luggage and belongings with you to the Welcome Center during the arrival process. You may store them in your personal vehicle or the luggage storage area. Please note we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Please note that all arrivals will be taking a photo upon arrival for your housing ID and you will need to be in ‘Disney Look’ from the shoulders up!
Please log into http://DORMS.disney.com as soon as possible to print and hand sign your forms if you have not already done so.  If you no longer remember your password, please select the ‘Forgot Password’ link on the page and enter the email address that you used on your online application.  This will send a new temporary password to that email address so that you may return to the site to print your forms.
If you have any questions or any issues printing your forms or are no longer planning to arrive on [your arrival date], please contact us at wdw.housing.DORMS@disney.com so that we may update our records.
Thank you,
Disney Housing Operations
This means that all new arrivals beginning May 13, 2013 are required to print out every form that they fill out on the DORMS site, and hand sign them all. Definitely a big change in the check-in system for the Disney College Program housing, but hopefully for the better.

Pre-Trip Report #1 - Colorado to Texas

Welcome to day one of the wonderful road trip!

The day began like any other on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. The majority of the day was spent readying and packing the rest of my room, then going to dinner with a fellow coworker with what little time I did have. I still fully believe that if you want to make time for someone, you will.

At one point during the day, I received a phone call from my Store Manager at Target notifying me that she had cashed out my final check, knowing that I would be leaving the state to move the following day. Since my little sister (one of the twins) wanted to go with me for my very final visit to Target, we went along for a ride. I ended up putting the top down, went by Sonic, let her play her Justin Bieber through my car stereo, and then picked up my check. Given the time frame and the circumstances, it had been nearly 3 weeks since I finally received my check, which would have otherwise meant a call to the board of labor.

Anyways, I spent the next several hours overnight packing the entirety of my room and deciding upon what to keep. I messaged several friends throughout the day asking if they'd like anything. Around 4AM I decided that it was time to attempt at some rest, and finally laid down on the couch as my bed was occupied. Woke up at 6AM, then went right back to work after showering. The rest of the morning was spent hurriedly packing since I was rushed out of the house, along with a trip to the bank. Thankfully I ended up packing the majority of the things I wanted to take, plus even more.

We finally got on the road around 11AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 after getting out of town. The first destination we were set for was Raton, NM with a final destination of Childress, TX. Our very first stop was at the Subway in Raton, NM (Clayton Road) which was an old converted gas station. After lunch we went by the nearby Helen's Gift shop to pick up a postcard.

After that, we spent the rest of the day driving through Texas going through Amarillo and a few other small towns. We finally stopped for the night at a Super 8 Hotel which we happened upon in Childress, TX. That night I wrote out the postcard from New Mexico at the hotel, to be shipped from Childress, TX to Aurora, CO.

The entire day consisted of 588 Miles over the course of approximately 11 hours from Aurora, CO to Childress, TX.

Pre-Trip Reports

Happy Sunday!

Over the course of the past few days I've had the pleasure of driving 2,000+ miles to Orlando, Florida. I plan on typing several trip reports detailing the past four days since I've got some very unique experiences during my journey. Keep an eye out for these the next few days!

Iron Man 3 Review

You start something pure, something exciting then come the mistakes, the compromises. We create our own demons...

Thus begins the third installment in the Iron Man franchise, with Robert Downey, Jr. as the famed Iron Man. The film opens with Tony quoting "some famous guy" which is then quoted by himself, making it famous. The entirety of the film is based upon created demons, and ultimately ourselves.

Throughout the film, Tony faces several of his demons, and overcomes them throughout the film. Pepper Potts is ultimately his true love, whom he is deathly afraid to lose more than anything else. I'm not going to go into much detail, as too much gives away the film. Then there's the villain known as The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley who did an excellent job. The Mandarin's character is as far from the comics that you'll get, and I do have quite a few issues with it. There's a big reveal at the end, as to who the true Mandarin is.

The film had many excellent scenes and messages, but overall I believe it sent a wonderful message of not letting anything stop you from achieving anything, and everything possible. My very favourite scene was at the very end, as Tony gave Pepper his "necklace" which is also his heart. In addition, Tony's quote of "Why Stop There" means a lot, as there's ultimately no stopping place in life as you have to keep moving forward in progress.

Make sure to stay after the credits for a nice little bonus scene, as it's worth it. Iron Man 3 released on Friday, May 10, 2013. Marvel is coming out with several other Avengers-related films the summer!

Get Out of Dodge

Hello, and a very happy Friday to you lot!

Well, I finally finished with Finals on Thursday, May 10 and am finally done with the school semester until next time! I think I did pretty well for having been quite busy the past 3 weeks, plus having stayed up until 3AM on Thursday Morning!

In other news, my 1996 Dodge Intrepid is finally sold meaning that I've accomplished quite a bit more than I planned out. If I learned anything from this, always remove your plates (especially vanity) and any other accessories (such as lanyards) that you may not ever see again, even if they say they'll be "right back".

In turn, I loaned a pair of my radians goggles that I had extra on hand to another student who had forgotten his the first lab that we did. These goggles were from High School Honours Chemistry, so meant quite a bit to me as we dyed them in class that year. The lesson here is don't lend anything out, no matter what it is, and expect anything in return.

Overall it's been an interesting week, excluding all regards to personal circumstances. We're getting there though.

I'm looking forward to writing an Iron Man 3 Review and re-writing a Final Packing list post, since my previous post has received quite a bit of attention lately.

Since I had the pleasure of seeing Iron Man 3 on Saturday, May 4, 2013 I would like to share some interesting "bonus" material that I came upon. Without further adieu, the unused original title sequence for Iron Man 3!

Last but not least, don't forget to stay after the credits of Iron Man 3 for a nice bonus!
